Recent Alum News: Jobs, Internships, School, and more

The careers of English majors tend to be interesting, circuitous, and filled with many steps, some planned and others the product of opportunity and ingenuity. The English Department website highlights the careers of a few alums several years out. Here’s a snapshot of some recent alums and their first steps after graduation.   • Olivia Ceccarelli (’09) is pursuing a masters in urban planning at the University of Maryland after internships at the Annie E. Casey Foundation and Parks and People.
  • Brian Olszak (’09) is finishing up a masters degree in community and regional planning at Temple University after serving as an Americorps VISTA volunteer in urban Philadelphia and as a library assistant. He is also on the board of the Philadelphia Orchard Project.
  • Sara Carr (’10) is a language arts teacher in the Anne Arundel County (MD) public schools after obtaining her masters in education at Towson University.
  • Nora Benedict (’10) moved to Charlottesville, VA, to join the University of Virginia’s Ph.D. program in Spanish Literature after finishing her masters in that area at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
  • Lauren Wilson (’10) is a publishing intern at the American Diabetes Association in Washington, DC, while she finishes a masters in English at American University.
  • Jenn Ladd (’11) is now the Associate Editor of The City Paper, Baltimore’s premier weekly. Right after Loyola she served as the Social Media Coordinator for Heavy Seas Beer, one of Baltimore’s best local brews.
  • Andrew Zaleski (’11) is the lead reporter for Technically Baltimore, a new digital magazine, after having starting out as the digital media editor at The Urbanite, Baltimore’s terrific monthly mag. Andrew is also a prolific freelance writer, contributing pieces in The Atlantic, Richmond Magazine, College Magazine, and more.
  • Mary Theresa Genetti (’11) and Bill Callis (’12) are in Thailand as instructors for Loyola’s Teaching in Thailand Program.
  • Giannini Davis (’12) is pursuing the five-year MAT program at Loyola.
  • Thomas Johnson (’12) is starting the English PhD program at Catholic University.
  • Laura Margherio (’12) accepted a job in the legal and advertising departments at RT Vanderbilt in Norwalk, Connecticut.
  • Chris McCune (’12) was accepted into St. John’s University Law School.
  • Rosie Miola (’12) is headed to Boston for a teaching position at Cristo Rey Jesuit school.
  • Brianna Panzica (’12) is an editor for Energy & Capital, an industry publication for which she began writing while still a student at Loyola.
  • Joelle Sanphy (’12) is pursuing the five-year MAT program at Loyola.
  • Matt Suprunowicz (’12) was accepted by Teach for America and placed in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
