Maryland State Archives summer internships–deadline 3/31/14

12 Feb

Several great (fascinating!) internship opportunities described below–all are in Annapolis, MD. Don’t hesitate to apply for the historical ones, just so long as you are actually interested in the history you will be working on! Also, the conservation and cataloging internships would be great for anyone interested in museum work and librarianship.

Internships at the Enoch Pratt Free Library

30 Jul

Here are some internship opportunities available for Fall 2013 at the Enoch Pratt Free Library. They are looking for people to do either of the following:

  • Help work on histories of the branch libraries as well as help organize archival materials for the main library history. FYI, the Enoch Pratt Free Library was one of the first public library systems in the U.S., so the history is both interesting and important.
  • Help the library with a diversity study, both by examining available demographic information but also through on-the-ground research at various branch libraries.

Both internships would be valuable for students interested in careers in librarianship (as well as those considering graduate school in library science). The first project would also be valuable for students interested in grad school in various disciplines or students interested in research-oriented careers. The second would be especially valuable for students interested in social justice issues, community service and activism, and literacy.

If you are interested in either of these opportunities, you can contact either Prof. Cole (jlcole at loyola dot edu) or the Volunteer Services coordinator at the Enoch Pratt Library, Pamela Potter-Hennessy (phenness at prattlibrary dot org). For either internship, you would need to commit to working at least 10 hours per week; the library is easily accessible by bus, so you don’t need a car. The internships are unpaid; they prefer, but do not require, that they be done for credit (EN 099).
